Hands-On Lab
The hands-on lab is designed for students that have completed a Sterile Processing program and have a thorough understanding of the theory behind Sterile Processing processes, techniques, standards, and regulations, but have not had the opportunity to practice Sterile Processing processes. Students will gain hands-on experience in the following areas: Decontamination, Prep and Pack, Sterilization, and Sterile Storage and Distribution.
During labs, students will review the following techniques as well other techniques:
Follow IFUs for disinfecting chemicals
Follow 3 step method for cleaning instruments
Use the correct cycle for instrument disinfection
Don and Doff proper PPE
Learn how to inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality
Learn how to test instruments for dullness, and functionality
Flush lumens with sterile water
Arrange instruments based on count sheet
How to use chemical indicators
Learn how to wrap trays
Inspect scopes for alignment, dents, and damage
Learn how to leak test flexible scopes
Use the correct brush size for cleaning flexible scope
