Surgical Instrument Specialist

The Surgical Instrument Specialist program is for experienced Sterile Processing professionals who wish to stay informed about the rapidly changing medical technology,or advance to a management  The program provides student with knowledge, cleaning and recognition of medical instruments, as well as reviewing instrumentation practice skills. The program will prepare students for the national Certified Instrument Specialist exam

Upon completion of this program, students will have the following skills:

• In-depth knowledge of  surgical instrumentation identification, use and safety
• Manage flow of material and communication between the operating room and SPD
• Address and assess the resource needs for surgical instrumentation
• Clear understanding of the role of instrumenst in various surgical procedures
